The materials used in luggage are important for durability and style

Posted by Admin | 20 Jul
The materials used in luggage are important for durability and style. There are a few different choices for luggage fabrics, including polyester, nylon, and leather.
Curv material is a great choice for hard-sided suitcases because it is strong and durable. It also retains its shape well, even in extreme temperatures.
Polyester
Polyester is one of the most common luggage fabric materials. It is lightweight and very affordable. It's also wrinkle and shrink resistant, which can make it easier to keep your luggage looking good.
It's best to get a polyester suitcase for leisure travelers and business travelers who don't travel frequently. However, if you travel often, it's better to go for a nylon suitcase that has excellent abrasion and tear resistance. Nylon suitcases are slightly more expensive than polyester ones, but they're much more durable.
Polycarbonate is another common hard-sided luggage fabric material. It's made of an impact-resistant thermoplastic polymer. Unlike ABS, it flexes rather than cracking after an impact. It's a very strong yet lightweight fabric, which makes it ideal for people who want to avoid heavy luggage.
Nylon is a tough and versatile fabric that's often used in soft-sided luggage. It's available in different thicknesses, ranging from 600D to 900D. The higher the denier number, the thicker and more durable the fabric is. Nylon is also much more flexible than polyester, which means that it's less likely to break if your luggage is jostled during a flight or thrown around in a car.
Some luggage brands even use a special type of nylon called Kevlar. This is a type of fiber that's woven with other fabrics to create a more resilient and stronger bag. It's also water-repellent, which is great for travelers who worry about their belongings getting wet.
Nylon
Often used in luggage, nylon is much less common than polyester. It is a pliable fabric, meaning it can be bent and stretched without losing its strength. It also resists abrasions and is fairly scratch-resistant. However, it does not repel water and may soak up some moisture, especially if left sitting in damp conditions.
Generally, the higher the denier, the stronger the fabric. Typically, nylon bags will be 600D or higher in denier. The higher the number, the heavier the threads are and the stronger the fabric. Similarly, the lower the number, the lighter the threads are and the weaker the fabric.
Nylon can be woven in a variety of ways. For example, some manufacturers weave it into a mesh to add support and abrasion resistance. This type of luggage fabric is also called ripstop, and it’s a good choice if you’re looking for a suitcase that will be durable against abrasions and tears.
Another variant is ballistic nylon, which was developed for military flak jackets during World War II to protect against bullets and other debris. Luggage makers have found that it is exceptionally strong and durable, but it is heavier than regular nylon. It is mostly used in backpacks that require added resistance and takes dye much better than regular nylon, so it can be a good option if you’re seeking something unique.
Leather is a traditional option, but it can be expensive and heavy. It can also be prone to damage, particularly when exposed to sunlight and heat. Moreover, it can stain if not treated carefully. Nonetheless, it’s a beautiful material that will last a long time if properly cared for. It is not a popular choice for suitcases though, since it is heavier than other soft-side luggage materials and can absorb a lot of water when wet. It’s more often used in backpacks and duffel bags. Unlike most fabrics, it is not weatherproof.
