How To Spot Clean A Weighted Blanket

Posted by Admin | 18 Mar

Ready to tackle stubborn stains? Here's how to clean a weighted blanket:

1. Immediately address stains

If possible, try to treat the stain while it is still fresh. The less time a stain soaks into the blanket, the easier the blanket itself will be to remove.

Start with a clean paper towel and gently blot the stain. Be careful not to knead! Rubbing the stain will spread the stain around and damage the fabric.

2. Run the stain under cold water

After absorbing as much of the stain as possible, pull the duvet cover away from the weighted blanket insert and rinse the stain under cold water. Be careful not to allow the stain to seep elsewhere.

Make sure the water is cold! Coldwater is good for foods that are high in sticky substances and pigments, such as red wine and ketchup. Hot water, on the other hand, can form protein-based stains (think vomit and blood), making them nearly impossible to remove.

3. Choose a mild detergent

If rinsing the stain underwater doesn't work, it's time to clean the stain. The stain remover you choose depends on the type of stain.

For food stains, try liquid dish soap. Mix one teaspoon of liquid dish soap with two cups of water. Dip a clean cloth into the solution and gently scrub the stain.

For tough stains like blood, use an enzyme-based stain remover. Enzymatic cleaners contain bacterial enzymes that help break down proteins in bloodstains. Apply stain remover, rub the sides of the fabric together, and let sit for at least 10 minutes.

Be careful with oxidative bleaches such as hydrogen peroxide, which can permanently damage fabrics such as rayon and polyester.

4. Gently rinse the stain remover

Rinse off the stain remover by pulling the duvet cover away from the insert and running it under cold water again. You can also remove stain remover by wiping the stained area with a damp rag.

5. Dry your weighted blanket

Check to see if the stain is still visible. If it's still there, repeat the process until it disappears.

Once the stain is no longer visible, place the weighted blanket to dry in a well-ventilated area. You can also use a hair dryer to speed up the drying process if you crave reunion with a weighted blanket.
